| The F-14
TOMCAT is the Navy's premier Fleet Air
Defense aircraft since first introduced in 1972.
This two seat aircraft - pilot and weapons officer -
was designed to operate from Aircraft Carriers. The
Tomcat’s unique ability to swing its wings in
flight from nearly straight to highly swept enables
it to have long range, high speed, and extreme
maneuverability. The plane carries up to six Phoenix
Missiles and can engage numerous targets at long
range simultaneously. In recent years the Tomcat has
been adapted into a formidable interdiction and
ground support role. While the Tomcat is scheduled
to be fazed out of service by 2008 it will always be
remembered as one of the great planes of Naval
Aviation. This image is dedicated to the courage and
daring of the Men and Woman who perform the
incredibly difficult and dangerous task of flying
off of aircraft carriers seem almost routine, as
well as to all the Men and Women of the Navy who
make it all possible. |
